Park Assistant – Part Time

White County will be accepting applications for a Part Time Park Assistant position. Applicant must be able to work nights and weekends. This position is open until filled. JOB SUMMARY

This position assists with Parks and Recreation Department activities, events, programs, and functions.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Assists in registering participants for athletic and other department programs.
  • Assists the public; provides information and assistance; resolves complaints; enforces department rules and regulations.
  • Assists in preparing athletic fields for games, tournaments, and events.
  • Assists in the custodial maintenance of parks facilities.
  • Sets up before and cleans up after special events.
  • Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in operating computers and job-related software programs as well as other office equipment.
  • Skill in operating job-related tools and equipment.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and establishes procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include county and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are clear and specific.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of related customer service and parks and recreation program duties. Inclement weather may contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to lead and participate in the provision of assistance for assigned department programs and events. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of department operations.

CONTACTS

  • Contacts are typically with coworkers, other county personnel, and the public.
  • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while standing or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
  • The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
