License Plates

In the State of Georgia each vehicle must display a license plate. This includes motorcycles and trailers. The following are standard fees for a tag:

  • $20 Passenger Vehicles
  • $20 Motorcycles
  • $12 Trailers

 

Vanity and Prestige Tags

The State of Georgia and the Department of Revenue allows motorists to pick custom license plates for an extra fee. These custom tags include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Universities & Colleges
  • Military Veterans
  • Motorcycles
  • Special Interests/Clubs

Military Veteran

Veterans and their families may be eligible for free custom license plates to commemorate their service. The MV-9W form must be filled out in order to receive special veteran license plate. More supporting documentation may be required for certain license plates. Each branch of the military offers different options. Please see the Department of Revenue's website for more examples and information.

 

Disabled Person's License Plate

License plates are available to disabled persons. The MV-9D affidavit must be completed and signed by a licensed healthcare professional. Upon approval disabled person's license plates are subject to a standard $20 fee. Other fees and penalties may apply such as ad valorem.

 

Disabled Person's Placards

In order to receive a placard, the MV-9D affidavit must be completed and signed by a licensed healthcare professional. Placards are issued in two formats, permanent and temporary. Temporary permits are issued for 6 months. Permanent placards are valid for four years and must be replaced.
