Vehicle Registration

Motor vehicles in the State of Georgia must be registered with the local county tag office. In the case of White County, that responsibility is handled by the Tax Commissioner.

Required Documents

In order to register a vehicle, certain documents must be provided. These vary depending on how the vehicle was acquired. The following are the minimum required documents:

  • Valid Georgia's driver's license or ID card reflecting your White County Address
  • Proof of Ownership
  • Proof of Insurance in Georgia
  • MV-1 Form
  • Payment Method

Other forms may be necessary depending on how the title of the vehicle is acquired.

When to Register

Vehicles must be registered within a certain time frame from their purchase date. Registration can only occur once the vehicle title is in the purchaser's name and the vehicle has been insured. Registration deadlines and fees differ based on the circumstance.

Purchased from an Individual or Business

Vehicles purchased in this manner require owners to register the vehicle within seven business days from the purchase date.

Purchased from a Dealership

Dealers will issue a temporary operating permit (TOP) that is valid for 45 days. The vehicle must be register within that time frame.
